Newburgh Urban Farming Fair, a two-day celebration of fresh, local food, will be held in the City of Newburgh April 29-30, 2016. The outdoor Fair on Sat. April 30 will celebrate urban farming with local exhibitors, crafts and family fun. An opening reception at Newburgh Armory on Fri. Apr. 29 will feature a keynote address by Urban Farmer and Food Justice Advocate Karen Washington.

The event, a collaboration of a wide array of community organizations, will highlight the goal of increasing city residents’ access to healthy food while revitalizing the economic and social vitality of the community.

The Newburgh Urban Farming Fair on Apr. 30 will be held rain or shine at the Safe Harbor Green on the corner of Broadway and Liberty Street, in the City of Newburgh, from Noon to 5:00PM. The opening reception on April 29 will take place at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center at 321 S William Street at 7:00PM. Both events are open to the community and free of charge.

Attendees at Newburgh Urban Farming Fair will learn about gardening and farming in an urban setting, and practical tips about what they can do in their own neighborhoods and backyards. The Fair will include attractions for all ages: a puppet show by Arm of the Sea, tips on worm composting from the Orange County Arboretum, crafts and seed planting projects by Hudson Valley Seed and Michael’s, and a Food Waste Reduction demonstration by the USEPA. At the opening reception on Apr. 29, keynoter Karen Washington will address the need to build a resilient and just food system for all residents of the City of Newburgh.
