66 Benkard Ave Newburgh NY 12550

Newburgh has gorgeous mansions done by famous architects and then there are these row homes that capture the hearts of so many. It’s so nice to see that the porch details have been kept in tact as well as the front door. This is a home in an ideal spot on Benkard Ave because it is right next to 3 other homes that have been rehabilitated and now have new homeowners. Just check out the amazing job that was done next door at 68 Benkard.

The home has been split into 2 units. There are some lovely fireplaces that still remain. One floor, probably the upper floor, is entirely covered in carpet. You’d have to find out if there is hardwood underneath.

70 Bay View Terrace Newburgh NY 12550

This property is being used as a two family home and would probably be so much nicer if it would be converted back to one. The home has a lot of original features like the floors, pocket doors, and stained glass windows we can see in the attic/third floor. Four garages come included with the purchase (which if someone buys please paint and put in windows). The balcony and porch look like the perfect place to enjoy a nice cup of tea. Next door is the newly rehabilitated Nora Cronin Academy.

17 Liberty St WH Newburgh NY

We looked at this property last year. At the time there were no interior photos. The listing has now been revamped with new photos and a lower price, about $70k less. Seems like the owners are motivated. It’s a gorgeous huge house on the corner of Liberty Street and Carson. There is the potential for it to be a showpiece property of the Heights neighborhood. It’s been cut up and been made into a multi-family property. There are many more photos on the website listing.

Press release:

The Newburgh Heights Association is proud to announce their sponsorship of the “Heights Banners Beautification Project. This art project involves 3 workshops, held over 3 consecutive Saturdays, Oct. 5th, 12th and 19th.  The children participating should live in the Heights district of Newburgh and must be between the ages of 7-12.  The art workshops will be held at the Heights Community Center, 104 S. Lander St. in Newburgh.  Parent(s) can register their children at the Center, Mon-Weds, from 2:00pm- 6:00pm. There will be two sessions each Saturday, one in the morning from 10:00am – 11:15am, and an afternoon session from 11:30am until 1:00pm.  Space is limited and admission is on first come, first served basis, so parents are urged to register as soon as possible.

This art education program will involve the creation of high quality public banners, which will be displayed from utility poles along Liberty St. in the Heights.  The goal of the project is to enhance the children’s sense of community and civic responsibility.  It will provide them with the opportunity, as well, to express themselves artistically while educating them on social topics, such as good health habits, neighborhood safety and beautification. The project also seeks to develop a sense of common purpose and collaboration among the participating children.

The children participating in the program will be assisted by art professionals who are skilled in working with children in an urban environment.  At the same time, the project is geared to creating a more aesthetic presence in Newburgh, helping the Heights to achieve their objective of making the Liberty St. corridor, the view sheds of the Heights and the Hudson Valley an attractive urban space that will draw new residents, businesses and increase the number of visitors to our area.

Artworks created by the children will be on display for public viewing at an Opening Reception. A second public viewing will take place once the banners are installed on Liberty Street.

This program is funded, in part, by Orange County Tourism and the County of Orange.

29 Courtney Ave Newburgh NY

This house has been through a transformation over the past few years. In 2008 it looked completely different. It was boarded up and in disrepair. Then in April of this year, we were able to speak to the owner and find out more about the work he had been doing for the past 5 years. The current owner, Chris, had to level the entire house which had as much as a six inch slope. He also uncovered a beautiful wood staircase that had been covered up. The bathroom was renovated with custom cabinetry, a granite counter top, a claw tub and a hand cut stone floor that he designed, cut and installed since Chris is a stone sculptor. He also did amazing work to the stone cut patio he installed himself. There are no interior photos posted with this listing, but you can see a bunch here and here. All this home needs now is a new owner who will continue the restoration work.

93 Courtney Avenue, Newburgh NY

This is a house on Courtney with a lot of nice original details that could shine with some work. Right now you can see the main entrance was adjusted to make it a 2 family. It would be really nice to see this property converted back to a one family and that chain link fence surrounding the property removed for a white picket fence.

There are some interesting additions in the rear, and the driveway space is something almost never seen in the Heights. It still has enough details that it could be restored quite nicely, and we happen to find the retro kitchen quite charming. Get your crowbar ready, there’s a whole lot of wood paneling here.
