Orange County Triathlon in Newburgh

An event 2 years in the making will be coming to Newburgh this summer. It is the Orange County Triathlon. It will be an Olympic distance triathlon that will be held at the Newburgh Waterfront. The OCT is guaranteeing to give a positive impression of the city and to have successful management. This will be the first ever triathlon to occur in the City of Newburgh. According to race director, Neal Wilkinson, “The sport of the triathlon is the fastest growing multi-sport in the country right now with no decline in sight. Triathletes are a perfect example of people who are aware of the environment around them and good examples of positive proactive citizens for a healthy active community.”

Most of the athletes along with friends and family will be from out of town and first timers visiting the Newburgh area. Surely local businesses will benefit from the influx of new visitors to the city. The map below highlights the routes the athletes will use when running. Washington’s Headquarters will be the location where runners will start and finish. You can check out their website for the maps for the swimming, biking, and transition routes.

According to Neal most participants will need approximately 16 weeks of training depending on the initial conditioning of the athletes. But, you can register online up till the day before the race. If you can’t participate physically in the triathlon, you can still be a part of it. Volunteers are needed for cheering and more (Course Directors, Lifeguards, Kayakers, Aid Station Workers, Bike Handlers, Sunscreen Applicators, Body Markers, Food Tent Workers, Finish Line, Crowd Control, Security etc.).
