Bird’s eye view of Newburgh, N.Y. 1891-1896
The New York Public Library has a new project called the Stereogranimator. Stereoscopes were photos usually dating from before the 1900 that came in what appear to be identical pairs. However, they weren’t exactly identical. They were made to be viewed together at the same time through a special lens called a stereoscope to create a depth of field, sort of like a 3D effect.
Now, you don’t need a stereoscope to enjoy these images. Type “Newburgh” into your search to see all of the great images. And if you have 3D glasses at home, you can see even more effects. Here are some of my favorite:
Newburgh Shipyard, 1891. 1891-1896
You can see the Tower of Victory, and the Newburgh Brewing Company aka Newburugh Paperbox Factory!
