Press release:

It is Autumn in the Hudson Valley. Trees are shedding their leaves, the air is crisp and clear, and pumpkins are dotting the landscape.  Though the last day for our Autumn Schedule is Sunday, October 27th, Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site is gearing up for an eventful Winter Schedule. Starting Friday, November 8th, the site will be open every Friday and Saturday, 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM. We will be available to visitors by appointment Tuesday through Thursday and also open for Special Events. Now, as for those Winter Special Events – we have some great ones this season! They are:

Warm Up At The Washingtons’ taking place on Sunday, December 8th , from 12:00PM-4:00PM. Start the season with a visit to our historic headquarters. Take a break from gift shopping and writing cards to see how the Washingtons acknowledged this season during the last winter of the Revolutionary War. Walk through seasonally decorated rooms while you are serenaded by the Salmagundi Consort. In each room a historic interpreter will answer your questions and supply an overview about what you are seeing and how life was at that time. Finish your visit to General and Mrs. Washington’s rented domicile with some cookies and cider by an outdoor fire. The admission is free for the day, compliments of the Friends of the State
Historic Sites of the Hudson Highlands.

While in the neighborhood visiting us, stop in and see the homes featured on the Candlelight Tours. Contact the Crawford House at 845-561-2585 for more information and ticket prices.

Winter Welcome Week  will be on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, December 26th, 27th and 28th , from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM each day.  18th Century attired historic Interpreters will guide you through the headquarters where General and Mrs. Washington resided during the last 16 ½ months of the Revolutionary War. In these rooms, decorated for the holiday season, Washington announced the cease fire, rejected a monarchy, and created and awarded the Badge of Military Merit, precursor of the Purple Heart.

Along with the headquarters, admission to the Museum, featuring “Unpacked and Rediscovered,” our award-winning  exhibit of over 1,300 artifacts, is included and a take-home activity will be offered to all those young at heart.

Presidents Day Weekend – Mark your 2014 calendar and bring an appetite to our annual George Washington Birthday Celebration. It’s a three-day event on February 15th, 16th, and 17th, from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Admission to the Headquarters and Museum is free those three days and includes military demonstrations, presentations, music, and a take-home souvenir.

The General’s Lady, our tribute to Martha Washington, will take place in March. At that event, the 2014 Woman of History Award will be given to a woman who has contributed to the betterment of Hudson River Valley history.

These are just sneak previews of the events planned during our Winter Schedule. Keep looking for upcoming announcements and visit us on our website and Facebook, or call 845-562-1195 for more information.
