Have you been to the new wine shop on Liberty Street, Palate Wine and Spirits? The owners have created a shop that is not only affordable, but aesthetically pleasing for the Washington Heights neighborhood. The decor is a combination of reclaimed wood with leather and metal used for displays. In the future the owners would like to upgrade the façade of the building as well.

Every Friday Palate offers wine tastings which are posted to their Facebook page. It’s a great opportunity to meet locals and find out what is happening in Newburgh. They are open every day, except Mondays, after 12pm.

In case you didn’t know, there’s a shrimp farmer in Newburgh. He’s growing his own shrimp in large swimming pools in a warehouse on South William (aka Resnick’s Mattress Factory). This Saturday, August 22, will be the very first harvest! Although ECO Shrimp sells to the restaurant industry, they will also be selling local retail.

Juice HQ Newburgh new location

This past Saturday was the grand opening and re-opening of businesses on Liberty Street. The much loved Juice Headquarters reopened at 118 Liberty Street, close to the intersection of Ann Street, across the street from the Wherehouse Restaurant. (Photo by Shailly Agnihotri)

Confectionery Comforts also opened this Sunday at 71 Liberty Street. According to their Facebook page, “Confectionery Comforts is classic Italian American style baking. Specialties are cakes, pies, cookies and more for any occasion.” This was the Juice HQ’s old location. Since then, the building has been bought and rehabilitated.

When one one door closes, another one opens. It’s great to see that ideas and creativity continue coming to Liberty Street.

Michael & Gerardo

Since Newburgh Restoration was started, I have seen many businesses come and go in Newburgh. One business that has consistently been there, and maintains consistent hours, is Newburgh Art Supply. Their door is always open. They are often the go-to spot when visitors come to the city looking for some more insight on the Newburgh scene and, they also support the burgeoning art community in the city. Below, they wanted to write a note of thanks. Congrats Michael and Gerardo!

We, Gerardo Castro and Michael Gabor, at Newburgh Art Supply are very excited to celebrate our 7th year in business this month.

Looking back on these seven years we are filled with immense pride for what we have achieved and even greater gratitude for the incredible support which has helped us get here. Our successes, rooted in our continuous commitment to community and friendships are in no small way a direct result of the overwhelming support we have received from our community, customers, and partners. Without you we would not be where we are today.

Newburgh Art Supply has experienced tremendous growth and significant accomplishments over the years. We have and continue to collaborate and partner with many local businesses, colleges, institutions and individuals to create events, gallery exhibitions and countless activities that foster change and transform our everyday experience with the arts…The Lightbulb Project, Art About Water and the highly anticipated Newburgh Open Studios celebrating 5 years in September have become a staple, of the Arts, in Newburgh.

As we continue to build a stronger relationship with each and every one of you, we fully recognize that your support and the continued trust that you place in us is the foundation of our success: we thank you!  And HURRAY- to many more years of NEWBURGH ART SUPPLY!

Juice Headquarters Newburgh

The much loved Juice Headquarters will be opening again in a new location, 118 Liberty Street.

There have been a few businesses that have shut their doors this year, and 3 new ones taking their place. I think this shows the persistence the community has in developing the Liberty Street business corridor. We just all have to do our part in supporting them.
