Anyone who can custom make their own butcher block has some skills in my book. That might not be saying much, but Jon at 45 Henry sure did a great job creating a custom built-in for their laundry area and a vanity for their bathroom. They scored this year old washer and dryer from Craigslist for only $650. The finished product looks incredible! Don’t you want a laundry like this?

Now on to the bathroom vanity. Back in November 2014 we saw their new bathroom with the refurbished tub surrounded by new white subway tile. For the vanity Jon used wood he reclaimed from the house, mostly fir. The counter top was finished off with Carrera marble.

Since buying their home at 45 Henry, Jon and Nadéne have been doing all sorts of projects in their home. One fun project is creating their very own art studio. It was used as a basement apartment in another life.

And this is what the space looks like today. It’s a simple space, perfect for what they need – white walls and a lot of open space. Recently, Jon just had a 2 week show at Tripoli Gallery in Southampton. Congratulations!

1 Edward Progress

Excitingly, things are moving along at 1 Edward. The family is doing tons of painting. They estimate that by the time they are done it will be close to 30,000 sq ft of space they have painted! Work is moving along so fast they hope to move in 2 weeks from now, or by the end of June. See below for more progress.

Living in a home while renovations are underway is a reality for a lot of homeowners. This is definitely the case for the owners at 45 Henry. Practically no part of their home in the Heights has been left untouched. Jon and Nadéne are quite talented in their trades and together stripped their kitchen down to the studs before building it all back together. All photos © Jon Beer

As the living room/kitchen combo was slowly put back together, the couple also painted their own kitchen cabinets and refinished the hardwood floors. As Jon said at this stage, “Lots of hard dirty work but it’s finally paying off!!”

After “two long long lonnnnnnggg months” they finally got a kitchen. Just in time for Jon to make his famous Pad See Yew.

As if all the work they did wasn’t amazing enough, they also designed and built a carrera marble island. It seems their cat approves.

Next on the list is creating custom cabinet and molds that will go under the eave storage space in their kitchen.

Here Jon is testing the fit of the bottom molding without the euro glides. The door will open outwards.

You’ve come such a far way! I can’t wait see what the kitchen and living room look like when they are completely done. Bravo Jon and Nadéne! All photos (c) Jon Beer.

Since the drywall went up and has been primed, new rooms have begun to be framed at 1 Edward. The top photo shows what will be the new dinning room and kitchen area, and the bottom photo shows what will be the future living room and work area. The doorway on the right will be the future staircase to the roof. They were not able to expose as many beams as they would have liked due to strict codes from the city for insulation. But Lan is excited that at least one old beam will be able to be exposed. She is so ready to decorate! Can you blame her? See below for the progress.

1 Edward Newburgh new

Finally Lan’s vision of 1 Edward is almost coming true! New drywall and paint totally transform this space that we have been used to seeing so many months missing a ceiling and a north wall. So far, Lan’s husband has spent 13 hours priming the walls. She said she was “not sure he would survive painting.” They still have a ways to go, but this is a huge improvement from where they started in the photo below.
