309 Liberty Street Newburgh

It is very exciting when a Rescue Me home is posted and there are a ton of replies saying, “How can I get this home?” Often there aren’t any contact details to be able to purchase the home or contact the owner. Fortunately there is a sign here from Prudential Realty # 845-634-1034. If you look it up online most sites it is not for sale. But don’t let that stop you from trying if you are interested.

Details about the block: it is located right next to 307 Liberty that has seen a beautiful restoration to the façade of the building. It is for sale. Across the street is the historic Old Town Cemetery and Weigand Tavern. The Tavern is for sale. And down the block, other home owners are restoring homes that used to look just like this at one time. It could be such a cute home. Won’t someone rescue 309 Liberty?

40 South Miller Newburgh NY

This home at 40 South Miller looks like it has been abandoned for quite some time. It will probably need a ton of work, but just imagine how great it would look with a little garden, new steps, window boxes and the glow of a cozy lit room from within. These modest homes in Newburgh are some of my favorites.

20 South Miller Newburgh

South Miller is a gritty street with numerous vacant and abandoned properties. This one has the door kicked in. The kids playing in the street were kind enough to get out of the way for me to take the photo. They say this home has been like this for a while. What a sweet home this could be for a family one day. The Christmas lights are proof that this used to be someone’s home. Won’t somebody rescue it?

If you have driven down Washington Street, it is hard not to miss these five buildings, 159-167. They have been sitting vacant for quite some time and are such an eyesore. When searching these properties online, you will find a multitude of statuses. One listing says that it has been sold. City records say the same thing. So why are they still sitting vacant a few years after purchase? These would make great lofts and apartments if all done the right way. Rehabilitation of these buildings is so important as well because many people travel down this street on their way to Washington’s Headquarters. They are also located next to St. George’s Cemetery, which is rich with history.

143 William Street Newburgh NY

This property at 143 William Street looks like it has gone through a battle. It looks like maybe even a fire might have occurred here. The siding on the 3rd floor is quite strange. Why would that be there? You can see brick behind the siding, so is it covering something up? This is part of the grouping of buildings on William Street between Renwick and Carson that we looked at last week. The same cornice design repeats itself here which I love.

This property was sold back in March 2013. Perhaps this would mean that the new owners will be making improvements? There were none when this photo was taken back in June.
